Using the class home page The home page is an entry point for all of your students to take the tests which have been assigned to them. It may be convenient to link to this page from your school or personal website. Keep in mind, however, that when a page is made public on the Internet, it is public to anyone who is using the Internet. For this reason, we've included the option of defining student passwords for the home page. You, the teacher, set the passwords. You could choose one password for everyone in the whole class, or a different password for each student. By doing this, you avoid the risk that a complete stranger stumbles upon your page and begins taking your class tests.
More than math - using the Public Test Library If you are browsing the public tests and see one you'd like to use, there are two options: Assign and Import. If you choose Assign the test will immediately be made ready for your students, with its own new test code. If you choose Import, the test instead is copied to your Design area where you can modify the questions. Multiple choice questions may include images. In order to ensure that the image you upload can be displayed in any student's browser, there are some restrictions on the images you can include. You may have to edit your image with an image editor on your computer. Most importantly, the image must be saved as a jpeg, gif or png file, and it must be smaller than 64k. ThatQuiz resizes images which are larger than 400x300 pixels so that they will fit with the question text even on small computer screens. It is not necessary to make your own tests public so that students can test. Making a test public means that you are willing to share the test with other teachers. If you have older students who are very computer-savvy, it may be wise to delay making a test public until after they have tested. There is nothing to stop a student from registering himself/herself as a teacher and browsing the public test library to look at your tests the night before an exam! It's also possible that a public test could be found by an Internet search engine. If you do create a matching or multiple choice test which may be valuable to other teachers, we encourage you to make the test public after your own students have tested. Preparing customized practice tests Any time that you create a test using your teacher account, that test can be given as a practice test, without grading, to your students. The URL (Internet address) of the test is where TESTCODE is replaced by the specific code for the test you've created (i.e. MPAK2849). If your class has a school web page, you can link to the practice test like this:
<a href="">Special Practice</a>
If you create a lot of tests which are only for practice, you may want to put those tests in a separate class called "Practice Tests". Assign one student to the class named "Pretend Student" or "Nobody". There's no need to enter all your student names if these tests are only for practice. You can create a collection of tests in the "Practice Tests" class which you use year after year. The advantage to using these practice tests is that your students will see exactly the problems which you assign them. You can even merge different quiz types and include matching or multiple choice questions. And there is no need to erase a grade for a student to take the test again. |
