Fraction and Decimal Coefficients
Fractional and Decimal Coefficients
Remember that coefficients are the numbers
next to the x.

If you have a fraction as a coefficient, you will
multiply both sides of the equation by the reciprocal.

If you have a decimal as a coefficient, you will
divide both sides of the equation by the decimal.
Let's try one:

0.38x = 16

Divide by the decimal:

0.38x = 16
0.38       0.38

x =16/0.38 =42.1 when rounded to the nearest tenth
Let's try one more:

1.25x = 0.3

Divide by the decimal:

1.25x = 0.3
1.25       1.25

x =0.3/1.25 =42.1 when rounded to the nearest tenth
Now it's your turn:  Round to the nearest tenth

1.28x = 14       x =
0.35x = -17        x=

135 = 0.52x        x =

-2.3x = 15          x =
Let's review fractional coefficients:

Multiply both sides by

x = 15

x = (15 x 8)/3 = 40
x = 15

x = -20     x =
x = -20     x =
x = -20     x =
